In most cases, books are renewed automatically so you should not find yourself in a position where you would need to pay a fine for an overdue item.

However, if an item you have borrowed has been requested by another user and you don't return it on time you may need to pay a fine. Our fines are as follows:

  • 3 week loans: 10p per day for the first 2 weeks, then 25p per day
  • 1 week loans: 10p per day for the first week, then 25p per day
  • 3 day loans: 50p per day
  • Desk reference: 50p per day
  • High demand reference: £5 per hour or part of hour
  • Inter-Library Loans: 50p per day
  • Laptops: £5 per hour or part of hour
